What is Roof Flashing?

One of the most crucial parts of any roof is the flashing. Correct installation will seal out air and water. All the intersections and valleys on your roof must have proper flashing strips installed in order to prevent water damage. It will also protect your roof from extreme weather elements and maximizes the lifespan of your roof.

Any seams, intersections, or joints on your roof? Continuous layers of roofing materials don’t cover these areas, leaving them vulnerable to leaks. This is where flashing comes in.

Flashing is can be made from several different materials, including stainless steel, copper, aluminum, sheet metal, lead, plastic, or rubber. All materials are waterproof and strong. Talk with your roofing contractor and see what material best works for your roof and budget.

Where Are Flashing Strips Installed?

Flashing strips keep water from leaking through areas where roofing panels connect. They also protect roof structures that stick out of the roof itself (chimneys, vents, dormer windows skylights, etc)

Flashing strips can wear down over time. Scheduling an annual service visit with a roofing contractor can help to identify any potential issues before they become big problems.
